Any form of adulteration might have negative health effects. Even it has the potential to be lethal. Therefore, all juice stores must adhere to the provisions of the Food Safety Act and hold a valid FSSAI registration license.

Why is FSSAI License Important for Juice Shops?

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is responsible for overseeing the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), a government agency that controls food safety in India. It creates FoSCos (Food Safety Compliance System) to obtain an FSSAI food license in India and aids in fssai food license renewal. Any food business must register with the FSSAI in order to obtain an FSSAI certificate before opening for business. The food industry encompasses not only food preparation but also food handling, distribution, and retailing.

Juice-based beverages are quite popular among children and teenagers. Numerous juice bars were shut down and their proprietors were arrested for using adulterants. Any juice bar must adhere to the rules of food safety procedures. Juices from your shop will be safe to consume and free from contamination thanks to FSSAI registration certificate. You can also comply with any legal obligations under the Food Safety Act if you have an FSSAI certificate.

Juice shops can be launched in one of two ways

  • Opening a fresh fruit juice shop: The applicant has the option of opening a fresh fruit juice shop in order to launch his fruit juice business. A minimal amount of funding is needed. Snacks or food products can also use it to increase their earnings. Its success totally depends on where the juice bar is located and whether it’s in a more hygienic area to protect people’s health and obtain an FSSAI registration license.
  • Starting a Pre-Packaged Juice Business: The idea of traditional, disorganized fruit juice stands has been overtaken in India in recent years by the trend of bottled or pre-packaged fruit juices. Furthermore, improvements in cold chains, packing methods, and food processing technologies have made it possible to distribute and ship fresh fruit juice over a wide area while keeping it fresh. This also requires a fssai license to demonstrate its authenticity and quality of standards. The fssai standards for fssai food license renewal and fssai license should also be taken into consideration while setting this.

Procedure to open fruit juice

  1. The first and most important stage in starting a fruit juice business is to decide logically whether the applicant wants to own its own shop or is going to hire on a rental basis.
  2. This company must be started with a minimum of three employees and then grow as necessary to meet market demands.
  3. Fresh produce, some dry fruits, strawberries, and a supply of these items are needed as raw materials. The applicant must decide whether to purchase equipment and cooking utensils.
  4. To start a fruit juice business in India, the applicant must have a fssai registration license.
  5. If your license expires, you should also Apply for an FSSAI license renewal to avoid penalties.

How do juice shops obtain an FSSAI certificate?

  1. Get your fruit juice business strategy ready.
  2. Calculate the amount of fruit juice you sell annually.
  3. Choose the licensing category that applies to your juice shop.
  4. Complete the application and the required paperwork for the foscos registration license.
  5. Reimbursing the fee.
  6. Send the application to the appropriate department.
  7. If there is any inaccurate information in your application, you should exercise caution. Your fssai registration may be cancelled by the FSSAI.
  8. Within 30 days, or around four and a half weeks, the revised form must be returned.
  9. The license may need to be approved by FSSAI within 15–45 days, or roughly one and a half months.

Anyone who has worked in the food industry or for a company knows how crucial safety management is. Just like in many other organizations and industries, there is a way for standardizing food safety. Businesses in the industry must adhere to the rules and make sure they are certified by the certifying organization.

International standardization, also known as ISO certification, is an outcome- oriented certification that also establishes some essential standards for improved food safety. The main goal of the standardization procedure is to raise or improve the food’s degree of safety in order to prevent harmful effects that endanger consumers’ health. Therefore, while analysing research or reading somewhere about the number of certificates in a particular country for a given Standard, be very cautious of this. Let’s analyses the ISO 22000 certification’s food safety management system in this blog.

What is ISO?

ISO develops and publishes a wide range of proprietary, industrial, and commercial standards and is made up of representatives from various national standards organizations. IAF’s official website is located at iaf.nu. Each and every ISO certificate has three phases and a three-year validity period, (1) starting with the initial phase. (2) Audit-I of surveillance. (3) Audit-II of surveillance.

We stress that the ISO Survey should not be judged in terms of absolute figures, such as the precise number of certifications for a certain Standard, but rather in terms of growth trends, percentages that were higher or lower, growth highlights, and growth scenarios, among other factors.

What is ISO 22000’s Food Safety Management System (FSMS)?

A set of doable and straightforward rules are included in the food safety management system for business owners in the food sector. The FSMS programme seeks to lessen and avoid many dangerous food-related health concerns. A consumer’s health may be negatively affected by food in a life-threatening way. The ISO 22000 certification’s standardization and global laws assist the businesses in adhering to the requirements for food safety.

The voluntary safety standardization program’s goals are in line with the WTO’s worldwide standardized development principles and GSP (Good Standardization Practices). The program’s ultimate goal is to guarantee the highest level of food safety in order to protect both the reputation of the business owner and the customers’ health. It accomplishes two things at once and benefits the industry’s operations.

An overview of ISO 22000

A few key components of the ISO 22000 standardization programme describe the goal and value of the certification programme. Interactive communication, system management, prerequisite programmes, and HACCP principles are essential components of ISO certification.

Between the chain of food suppliers, distributors, and consumers, interactive communication helps to build confidence and trust. The owner of a food business might not have a direct line of contact open with the aforementioned organizations. The ISO certification attests to the reliability of the sold and consumed goods.

In this context, system management refers to the procedure by which operators of food businesses demonstrate the legitimacy of the safety management system set up in their business operations. To make sure that the rules are effective, the FBOs carefully adhere to certain criteria in the system management process.

PRPs (precondition programmes) have clear ISO definitions. A series of core procedures and tasks known as ISO certification serve to assure food chain safety management. The certifying body’s listed activities are essential criteria for offering items of the highest quality. As a result, it is clear that the prescribed actions and rules start at the ground level in order to provide the highest level of consumer safety.

HACCP (Hazard analysis and critical control points). Operators in the food industry need to keep these guidelines in mind. Conducting a food hazard analysis and defining the essential controlling criteria for operators of food businesses are essential steps. The CCPs are nothing more than procedures that aid in identifying potential food hazards. The FBO values each crucial controlling pointer.

Importance of a food safety management system

There are many different types of foodborne illnesses, and they can have fatal consequences for your health. If more than two consumers experience the same health issues, the food may be labelled as dangerous. To assess the situation, the authorities can look into it. The likelihood of encountering such issues decreases if the owner of a food business adheres to the principles of the food safety management system, thus obtain ISO certification from a reputable organization is very essential. Therefore, it is crucial for all food industry operators to follow the rules and create an effective food safety management system. So, LegalRaasta, which grows your system more successfully, can be contacted if you need any assistance with ISO Registration Processes.

How does ISO certification or the food safety management system benefit a business?

The business owner can reduce the danger of health hazards by adhering to well specified procedures. Businesses having a sterling reputation for reliability and compliance with the rules. It assists companies in avoiding regulatory issues and legal claims over food safety. The company can avoid errors by using a totally effective food safety management system. With the effective implementation of a food safety management system, making poor purchasing selections, poor budget management, poor contamination management systems, and other common faults can be readily avoided.

ISO 22000 certification advantages

  • All owners and operators of food businesses should take a proactive attitude. The company’s ISO 22000 certification confirms its high level of reliability. Along with the trust element, there is further room to enhance the food safety management system. Operators of businesses can choose and carry out management improvement measures.
  • Did you know that the cost can be reduced by using the ISO Certification mark? Yes, it brings down testing costs. For quality assurance and safety management, you can choose how frequently tests are conducted. It demonstrates the careful approach used by the firm owners, which lessens the need for frequent testing.
  • Customer happiness is one of the numerous advantages of having an ISO certification. The ISO contributes to every area, from better production to better packaging, making it simpler for consumers to rely on the consumables. They may put their complete trust in the brand and use the products with confidence!
  • Finally, it demonstrates the company’s transparency. The ISO assurance and certificate are necessary for maintaining the business’s integrity. For the production of a top-notch product, test compliances are crucial and effective.

  • Carrying out a hazard analysis.
  • Identifying or recognising crucial turning points.
  • Defining the upper and lower critical limits.
  • Establishing a CCP management monitoring system.
  • Definition of corrective action for a CCP management critical point deviation.
  • Steps for confirming the corrective HACCP plan and ensuring improved control.

Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS): What Is It?

The Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS), an online application that offers licensing and registration functions, was previously deployed by the FSSAI. The FLRS programme made it possible for FBOs to submit FSSAI registration and license requests for all food enterprises, and it also supported how the Central and State licensing authorities handled these requests. The FLRS has been in use for the last nine years. Numerous improvements and updates have been made to the application throughout time to improve usability.

FSSAI recognized the need for an upgrade after observing several performance issues and business process restrictions in FLRS, which resulted in the creation of a new application called Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS).

FoSCoS was carefully developed to be as functionally and procedurally comparable to the FLRS programme as possible while simultaneously being made more user-friendly and having its system performance improved. The open source platform of FoSCoS, along with its new and sophisticated User Interface, makes it more logical, computationally potent, and technically superior to FLRS.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, also known as the Food Safety Laws, is an institution that oversees and regulates the country’s food industry. Furthermore, it is a self-governing body within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Indian government.

Since the food industry began to play a big part in the economy, the FSSAI License was founded under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act) of 2006 to keep a check on the ever-growing problem of food adulteration and additive mixing. Furthermore, the FSS Act is a consolidated statute that brought the provisions of several different food safety laws (Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954; Vegetable and Oil (Control) Order, 1947; Likewise, Milk and Milk Products, 1992) under one umbrella by establishing standards based on scientific research and calculation for the regulation of the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale, and import of food products.

The purpose for Law of FSSAI License:

The FSS Act was passed in order to:

  • Consolidate numerous food safety legislation across the country.
  • Create a single-point-of-reference system.
  • In addition, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India should be established (FSSAI).
  • Cultivate safe food practices.
  • Furthermore, food businesses should be licensed in order to ensure adequate supervision.
  • Inspections and sanctions are used to ensure compliance.

The existing uses of the FSSAI include:

  • Regulations are being drafted to establish food safety standards and guidelines.
  • Providing food enterprises with FSSAI food safety licenses and certifications.
  • In addition, we are establishing procedures and recommendations for laboratories in the food industry.
  • When it proceeds to policy formulation, advise the government.
  • In addition, data on pollutants in food products, the identification of developing dangers, and the implementation of a quick alert system will be collected.
  • We are creating a food safety information network across the country.
  • Furthermore, raise public knowledge about food safety and standards.

The food processing sector is arguably one of India’s greatest sectors, with enormous potential to contribute to the agricultural economy’s upliftment, the establishment of large-scale manufacturing units and food chain outlets, and the production of jobs and export revenues.

Important Regulations by the FSS Act

General Guidelines for Food Safety and Articles of Food:

The Food Safety and Standards Act has a few regulations that food business operators must obey, such as the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. Furthermore, Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011; Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins & Residues) Regulations, 2011; Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sale) Regulations, 2011; Food Safety and Standards (Packaging & Labeling) Regulations, 2011, and so on. The act’s regulations allow or ban the addition of chemicals to food intended for human consumption.

It cannot be manufactured, disseminated, sold, or imported into India if it is a novel, genetically modified article of food, irradiated food, organic food, foods for special dietary applications, functional foods, nutraceuticals, health supplements, proprietary foods, and so on, according to the act. Furthermore, only those permitted under the Food Safety and Standards Act’s norms and restrictions are allowed.

It cannot be manufactured, disseminated, sold, or imported into India if it is a novel, genetically modified article of food, irradiated food, organic food, foods for special dietary applications, functional foods, nutraceuticals, health supplements, proprietary foods, and so on, according to the act. Furthermore, only those permitted under the Food Safety and Standards Act’s norms and restrictions are permitted.

The Act requires specific labeling for various types of food, and Food Business Operators must closely adhere to these standards. Imported food also has its own set of requirements that must be adhered to.

Research and quality assurance

Research: The R&D department is in charge of the following research goals:

  • New knowledge creation will aid in the constant updating and upgrading of food safety standards that are compliant with international organizations.
  • In terms of food safety, the FSSAI must conduct evidence-based studies in order to develop or modify policies.

Quality assurance: According to the committee, it shall execute various responsibilities connected to food quality and standards. For this, the FSSAI has established many laboratories, which are divided into the following categories:

  • FSSAI stated NABL accredited labs- 112
  • State Labs- 72
  • Referral Labs- 14

FSSAI’s participation in food quality initiatives

  • Heart Attack Rewind: Heart Attack Rewind is an action by FSSAI to reduce trans-fat from India by the year 2022. This action has campaigned across India.
  • FSSAI- CHIFSS: It being a collaboration between FSSAI and CII-HUL, it intends to develop partnerships within Industry, Scientific Community, and Academia for food safety.
  • Swasth Bharat Yatra:  It is a pan-India movement named ‘Eat Right India,’ which was aimed to build consumer awareness about eating safe and nutritious food.

Packaging and Labelling Regulations

The Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labeling) Regulations, 2011, are comprehensive requirements that all food product makers and brands should follow. In addition, the FSSAI mandates twelve primary labeling requirements for all food packaging. These are the following:

  1. Name of the food
  2.  List of ingredients
  3. Nutritional information
  4. Declaration if the food product is vegetarian or not
  5. Declaration of the food additives used
  6. Name and complete address of the manufacturer
  7. Customer care details,
  8. Quantity
  9. Retail sale price
  10. FSSAI logo and license number,
  11. Batch identification number, the date of marketing, country of origin
  12. The instructions for use.

On all food and beverage labeling, the FSSAI decides on the content architecture, the positioning of material – what goes on the front or rear, the sizes of different texts, fonts to be used, and the volume of the area the info should cover.

Objectives of FSSAI role in food quality

  • The FSSAI draughts regulations to establish standards and norms for food products, as well as a method for enforcing those requirements.
  • It also establishes processes and guidelines for accrediting certification bodies that engage in the field of food safety management system certification for food enterprises. More information about India’s regulatory guidelines for proprietory food can be found here.

Furthermore, the type of food license required is determined by the size of the firm and the sort of commercial activity that the food business owner engages in. On October 16, 2006, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) declared the FSM Scheme. Small and medium food-related firms can use the Food Safety Mitra to expand their operations while staying compliant with FSSAI regulations. It also assists food enterprises with food safety registration, licensing, training, and compliance. By establishing a transparent and structured environment that supports food firms, the Food Safety Mitra (FSM) Scheme will make doing business easier. Food companies will be able to identify qualified service providers at a fair rate, lowering compliance expenses and streamlining the FSSAI registration procedure.

What is the FSM Scheme?

The food safety Mitra system was recently introduced by the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Food Safety Mitra Scheme was developed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to assist all small and medium food enterprises in India in complying with food safety rules. The Food Safety Mitra (FSM) Scheme will increase ease of doing business by building a transparent and organized ecosystem that supports food enterprises, allowing them to obtain trained service providers at reasonable prices, thus cutting compliance costs.

The Food Safety Mitra (FSM) plan would also provide new job opportunities for young people, particularly those with a background in food and nutrition. To conduct their work, the FSM would be trained and certified by the FSSAI, and they would be paid by food businesses.
